Meet Me at the Fair: A World's Fair Reader is a multi-disciplinary exploration of the many cultural facets and lasting influence of the World's Fair international exhibitions. From the Crystal Palace in 1851 London to Expo 2010 Shanghai China, this edited collection examines the lasting influence of expositions on culture, technology, design, architecture, engineering, entertainment, and media over time and across the globe.

5000 Words, Five Illustrations

Full chapters are for extended discussions of larger themes either across fairs or within a specific fair. Topics include but are not limited to historical accounts, exhibition design, engineering and craftsmanship, architecture, technology, media, literature, popular culture, issues of cultural representation, race, gender, and international perspectives.

Short Essay

1500 Words, One Illustration

Short essays are for authors wishing to contribute focused discussions of topics like those for full chapters or personal accounts of experiences with the Worlds Fair.

Artifact Analysis

1500-3000 Words, Three Illustrations

Artifact analyses are intended for specific works of the fairs. Possible objects of analysis include but are not limited to individual exhibits, implementations of a technology, promotional material and memorabilia, buildings, and works of art or media.
